[She Reads Truth] Proverbs 1: My Manual For Living

She Reads Truth - Proverbs - Day 1

She Reads Truth – Proverbs – Day 1

Yes, I’m a little excited. Today begins the new plan for She Reads Truth. I’ve been dying to jump aboard this bible reading and journaling group. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to read and study the bible. So, this group is just my speed.

“A Manual for Living. These are the wise sayings of Solomon, David’s son, Israel’s king – written down so we’ll know how to live well and right, to understand what life means and where it’s going.” Proverbs 1:1-3 MSG

Today, we began the PROVERBS plan, which is just what the Lord had in mind for me. According to my study bible (Life Application Study Bible, NKJV), “what the book of Psalms is to prayer and devotional life, the book of Proverbs is to everyday life. Proverbs gives practical suggestions for effective living.” The bible notes state that the book of Proverbs focuses on God – his character, works, and blessings – and it tells how we can live in close relationship to him.

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE IT. This intro sums up one of the main reasons I’ve dedicated my life to Christ. I want to live a better way in close relationship to God. And I don’t want to figure out life on my own. I also began to realize that God already had “Life” figured out. All I had to do was follow Him – his instructions.

And God always delivers, especially when I’m seeking. Proverbs are the instructions I’ve been searching for.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. But fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7 NKJV

This verse is so powerful and really stuck out to me. As a new born-again Christian (aka baby Christian), I wanted to understand the phrase “fear of the Lord.” According to my trusty study bible, it means to honor and respect God, to live in awe of his power, and to obey his word.

Faith in God should be the controlling principle for your understanding of the world, your attitudes, and your actions.

Trust in God – he will make you wise.

So, there I had it. I don’t need the 2 bachelor degress, my master’s degree, or even my juris doctor degree to make myself wise and figure life out. All I need is to trust in God.

Even doing the bible study this morning, God revealed wisdom to me about my own JD degree and what I truly accomplished over these past 3 years. He showed me what I couldn’t even see on my own. Already Jesus is making me wise.

Confession: I have been a “fool” and a “simpleton” that Proverbs 1 discusses for the majority of my life. And I’ve paid the price for sinning and not following God. I can now see the errors of my ways by looking at my past.

Thank God He saves and gives us his holy grace.

Dear Lord, thank you for using technology to bring me closer to You. Thank you for putting the idea in the hearts and minds of the folks at She Reads Truth for such an amazing plan to bring us all closer to You. Please help me be disciplined and follow this plan. More importantly, help me to set aside time just for You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

**Check out and get started with the plan. I’m sure you will love it like I do. It’s a plan that you do daily either by reading a chapter in your own bible or following the plan on YouVersion. We can do it together. I won’t always share my revelations daily as a result of the plan, but when I feel moved to share… I will.
